COPILOT TRAINING
WORKSHOP FOR ALL STAFF.
This is the usual starting point: get a room (or a cohort) of staff using Copilot properly, on their own work, rather than watching a demo and forgetting it by Friday. We run it repeatably, so a large team can go through in waves without losing quality on the fourth session.
Who it's for
Any team that already has, or is about to get, Microsoft 365 Copilot licences and wants staff genuinely using it — not just paying for seats that sit idle.
Format
Usually 2–3 hours, hands-on, and repeatable, so the same session can run for several cohorts across a day or a fortnight. On-site at your premises or live remote.
What people leave able to do
- Draft, summarise and rewrite documents and emails with Copilot Chat, and know when to double-check its output.
- Use Copilot inside whichever of Word, Excel and PowerPoint the business actually licenses, on tasks from their own job.
- Upload a file into Copilot Chat and ask questions about it without emailing it around first.
- Explain the difference between the free Copilot Chat and what a paid Copilot seat adds, so nobody assumes it does more than it does.
- Write a specific, iterative prompt and improve on one that didn't work the first time.
- Know where to get help afterwards, and what not to paste into a chat window.
The session, module by module
What we cover.
Module 1
What Copilot actually is
We set expectations honestly before touching a keyboard: Copilot Chat's free web-grounded tier versus what a paid Microsoft 365 Copilot seat adds, and what an 'agent' is. Ten minutes, no jargon.
Module 2
Copilot Chat for everyday writing
Drafting, summarising and rewriting in plain language, practised on participants' own real emails and documents rather than a canned example.
Module 3
Copilot inside Word, Excel and PowerPoint
A guided tour of the in-app assistant in whichever apps this business actually uses day to day, tied to a real task each person picks themselves.
Module 4
Working with your own files
Upload a document or spreadsheet into Copilot Chat, ask it questions, and check the answer against the source — a habit we make everyone practise before they leave.
Module 5
Prompting that works
A short, practical technique for getting a useful answer on the first or second try, built from before-and-after examples the room generates itself.
Module 6
What good and bad look like
Where Copilot gets things wrong, how to verify it, and where judgement says don't use it at all — client data, anything confidential, anything you wouldn't want repeated.
Prompts we practise in the room
Real tasks, not demo tricks.
Summarise a long email thread
Summarise this email thread in five bullet points and tell me what decision is still outstanding.
Draft a message
Draft a short email to the team letting them know Friday's meeting has moved to 2pm, in a friendly tone.
Tidy a document
Rewrite this paragraph so a new starter could understand it, without changing what it means.

Here's our current leave policy — what does it say about carrying over annual leave?
Licences: what attendees need
Every Microsoft work account gets free web-grounded Copilot Chat at no extra cost. A paid Microsoft 365 Copilot seat — Copilot Business for organisations under 300 people, or the enterprise add-on above that — adds grounding on the business's own Microsoft 365 content (SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams) and the full in-app experience inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. Since 15 April 2026, organisations with 2,000 or more Microsoft 365 seats no longer get free in-app Copilot access for unlicensed staff in those four apps — worth checking your seat count before promising the room a no-cost option. If licences aren't sorted yet, Microsoft's Copilot in 30 offer gives eligible organisations under 300 staff a free 25-user, 30-day Copilot Business trial through a CSP partner, available to 31 December 2026 — see our Copilot in 30 trial page (/copilot-in-30-trial).

Before you book this session.
- How many staff can go through at once?
- We keep groups small enough to be hands-on — tell us your headcount and we'll suggest cohorts. Four sessions of 15–20 people works better than one session of 80.
- Can this be customised to our documents and templates?
- Yes — send us a couple of real (de-identified if needed) examples beforehand and we'll build the hands-on exercises around them instead of generic samples.
- Do staff need a Copilot licence to attend?
- No. Everyone with a Microsoft work account already has free Copilot Chat. Staff with a paid seat will also see the in-app Word, Excel and PowerPoint experience — we cover both.
- Can you run this on-site?
- Yes. We have offices in Brisbane, Mackay, Townsville and Adelaide and run on-site sessions at client premises in those cities as standard; elsewhere in Australia on-site is arranged case by case, or we run it live remote.
- What happens after the session?
- You get the prompt examples we used, a short list of anything we flagged (licensing gaps, oversharing risk, obvious next steps), and an open door if a cohort has follow-up questions.
