What E7 is
Microsoft 365 E7 — marketed as the 'Frontier Suite' — is the first new enterprise suite tier Microsoft has added above E5, generally available since 1 May 2026. It bundles four things: Microsoft 365 E5 (the full productivity, security and compliance stack), Microsoft 365 Copilot for every user, Entra Suite (the advanced identity bundle including Internet Access, Private Access and ID Governance), and Agent 365 (the AI agent control plane). Microsoft's positioning is blunt: this is the per-seat licence for an organisation where every knowledge worker has Copilot and works alongside governed agents.
The à-la-carte comparison in one line
Bought separately, the components list at roughly US$117 per user per month (E5 US$60 + Copilot US$30 + Entra Suite US$12 + Agent 365 US$15, checked August 2026) — so E7 at US$99 is about a 15 per cent discount for buying the lot. That's the whole pitch: if you were going to buy all four anyway, E7 is cheaper; if you weren't, it isn't. One caveat that matters: the US$99 covers licences and governance only — actually building and running agents still incurs separate consumption spend through Copilot Studio credits or Foundry.
Who E7 is actually for
E7 makes sense for organisations already committed to E5 and rolling Copilot to all (or nearly all) users, that now need Entra Suite or Agent 365 on top. It is not an entry point. The classic E5 waste pattern — paying for a security stack that never gets deployed — compounds at E7: if PIM, Defender for Identity and Purview auto-labelling aren't live in your tenant today, buying E7 adds Copilot and agent governance to a foundation you're not using. Fix E5 deployment first, then decide whether the extra US$42 over E5 earns its keep against your Copilot and agent roadmap.
Australian buying notes
List pricing is USD; AUD list for E7 was still channel-dependent at the time of writing, so confirm with your CSP. Launch promotions run longer for E7 than the E3/E5 lineup: through CSP, 10 per cent off one-year terms (from 10 seats), 15 per cent off one-year terms (from 100 seats) and 15 per cent off three-year terms (from 300 seats), live until 31 December 2026 (checked August 2026). One sweetener worth knowing: eligible E5 and E7 customers receive included Microsoft Security Copilot capacity — 400 SCUs per month per 1,000 user licences, capped at 10,000 — which used to be pure consumption spend.
