Teams Phone Standard provides core Teams voice features without requiring a traditional calling plan or associated phone numbers, offering a foundation for custom voice solutions.

What Teams Phone Standard does

Teams Phone Standard unlocks a range of enterprise voice features within Microsoft Teams. This includes features like enterprise voice, voicemail, call queues, and auto attendants, enabling organisations to build a basic PBX-style system directly within Teams. It’s designed to be a flexible foundation, allowing for customisation and integration with other services. However, it does not provide direct connectivity to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).

Teams Phone Standard in Australian tenants today

In the AU mid-market, a prevalent pattern involves Teams Phone Standard combined with Direct Routing services delivered through providers like Telstra, Optus, TPG, AAPT, MyNetFone, and Symbio. This allows organisations to leverage local telecommunications infrastructure and expertise. While Calling Plans are available in Australia, often through AAPT or Telstra reseller agreements, Direct Routing offers greater control and potentially cost optimisation for many AU mid-market organisations, aligning with the principles of resilient systems outlined in APRA CPS 234.
