Managed IT for Byron Bay.
Built for a town where the visitors outnumber the locals.

Frontrow runs managed IT, Microsoft 365 and cyber security for Byron Bay and Byron Shire — the accommodation, hospitality and tour operators behind the visitor economy, the creative, media and wellness businesses the town is known for, the health and allied-care providers around Byron Central Hospital, and the producers and professional firms of Mullumbimby and Bangalow. Delivered from Frontrow's Brisbane office, with continuity designed for a shire that saw its main street under water in 2022.

Why local knowledge matters

The difference regional understanding makes.

Byron runs on a season every operator plans around, a workforce that arrives and leaves with it, festivals that fill every bed for a week at a time, and a main street that has flooded within living memory. The provider that designs for those realities answers a different way to the one selling a capital-city template.

A city MSP emails you a plan that assumes a fixed headcount, a quiet long weekend and a street that stays dry.

Frontrow runs IT for Byron Shire businesses with senior engineers, identity built for seasonal staff, and on-site work backed from the Brisbane office.

A provider that understands a visitor-economy town and plans for it, not one surprised by it.

Honest about the address

No Byron Bay shopfront. Senior delivery either way.

Frontrow's offices are in Brisbane, Mackay, Townsville and Adelaide — not Byron Bay. Rather than pretend otherwise, Frontrow supports Byron Bay and Byron Shire from its Brisbane office at Level 1, 355 Queen Street, and schedules on-site visits when a job genuinely needs hands on the ground. Brisbane is about 165 km up the motorway, which keeps that practical.

Frontrow has been a Microsoft Partner since 2018, with Modern Work and AI specialisation and a 5× Microsoft MVP on the team. For monitoring, Microsoft 365, Essential Eight and Copilot work, that depth reaches a Byron business the same way it reaches a Brisbane one — the senior architect on the call, wherever the desk happens to be.

  • Tourism and hospitality at the easternmost point

Cape Byron is the easternmost point of mainland Australia, and the town beside it has been a travellers' destination since longboard surfers arrived in the 1960s. Byron Bay draws domestic and international visitors to its beaches, whale watching, the Cape Byron Lighthouse walk and a festival calendar that includes Bluesfest at Tyagarah, Splendour in the Grass and the Byron Writers Festival. Frontrow supports the accommodation, hospitality and tour operators behind that traffic: bookings, payments and rosters that have to work every morning, and a workforce that swells with the season.

  • Creative, media and wellness businesses

Byron Bay supports a cross-section of artists, musicians and makers, a cluster of alternative and wellness businesses from yoga studios to healing retreats, and the SAE Institute campus teaching audio engineering, digital film, multimedia and animation. Frontrow runs IT for the studios, agencies, practitioners and training providers in that economy, with the Microsoft 365 collaboration, file storage and device management a distributed creative team needs, secured properly.

  • Health and allied care

Byron Central Hospital is a Northern NSW Local Health District hospital, and a network of private clinics, specialists and allied-health practices works around it and across the shire. Frontrow runs Microsoft 365, backups and Essential Eight aligned controls so a practice can prove its security posture, keep patient-facing systems available, and satisfy the questions an accreditor or insurer will ask.

  • Mullumbimby, Bangalow and the hinterland

Byron Shire is administered from Mullumbimby, the self-styled biggest little town in Australia, where the subdivision of larger farms has produced a diverse small-scale food economy with its own weekly farmers' market. Bangalow, just off the Pacific Highway, pairs a heritage main street of cafes and boutiques with a Saturday farmers' market running since 2004. Frontrow supports the producers, retailers and professional-services firms across both, from the hinterland to the coast.

Designed for Byron Shire

Built for the coast and the hinterland behind it.

A national MSP can sell a generic plan and a local one can sell a local address. Frontrow brings senior Microsoft and cyber depth to a shire of 566.7 square kilometres administered from Mullumbimby, where the largest town sits beside the easternmost point of the mainland, the nearest airport is 35 km south at Ballina, and the economy runs on visitors, creativity and small producers. Frontrow services the wider region the same way — including Lismore inland and the Gold Coast over the border.

  • Backed from the Brisbane office

Frontrow has no Byron Bay shopfront. Day-to-day support, monitoring and the Microsoft depth run from the Brisbane office at Level 1, 355 Queen Street, with on-site visits scheduled when hands-on work genuinely needs them. Byron Bay is about 165 km south of Brisbane, so a scheduled visit is a planned drive down the motorway, not a flight.

  • Built for a visitor economy

Byron Bay's permanent population is a fraction of the people in town on any given week, and the businesses that serve them run on seasonal staff, shared devices and systems that can't go down on a long weekend. Frontrow manages identity so onboarding is fast, offboarding actually happens, and departed seasonal staff don't keep a live login to the booking system or the payroll file.

  • Flood-ready by design

On 30 March 2022, Byron Bay's main street, Jonson Street, was partially submerged in floodwater after another wave of heavy rain across northern New South Wales, and Mullumbimby was affected by the same year's floods. Frontrow designs cloud-first systems, off-site backups and a written plan for the days a premises can't be reached, because the region has shown it needs one.

  • Honest about connectivity

Frontrow scopes connectivity from what each address can actually get, not from assumptions — fixed-line where it exists, business-grade wireless or 4G/5G failover where it doesn't, and systems designed to keep working through a slow or interrupted link, whether the site is on the coast or up a hinterland road.

Business continuity

Jonson Street went under in 2022. Design for the next one.

On 30 March 2022, Byron Bay's main street was partially submerged after another wave of heavy rain across northern New South Wales, in the same weeks that Mullumbimby flooded and the Pacific Highway was closed at points through the Northern Rivers. Businesses learnt which of their systems had a real recovery plan and which had a hope.

For a visitor-economy town, the exposure isn't only the water — it's what days without power, connectivity or site access do to bookings, payroll and a season that doesn't pause. Continuity should be designed in the dry, not after the warning. Frontrow builds backup, disaster recovery and continuity plans around the events this shire has actually had, with tested restores and a documented plan rather than a tick-box.

  • Cloud-first, site-optional

If the shop is unreachable, work shouldn't stop with it. Frontrow puts identity, files and phones in Microsoft 365 — not on a server behind the counter — so staff keep working from wherever the water isn't.

  • Backups outside the floodplain

Off-site, geographically separate backups with tested restores and documented RTO/RPO. A backup drive in the same building as the server is not a continuity plan on a street that has flooded.

  • Power & connectivity failover

UPS on the comms rack, 4G/5G failover on the router, and a written plan for who calls whom and what comes back first — designed so a resort office, studio or clinic rides out an outage instead of going dark with it.

Plan it with real numbers

Free tools before you talk to anyone.

Frontrow publishes the tools it uses in scoping conversations, free and without a sign-up wall — so a Byron business can put numbers around cost, security posture and end-of-support exposure before the first call.

  • Connectivity scoped honestly

Frontrow quotes from what each address can actually get — fixed-line where it exists, business-grade wireless or 4G/5G failover where it doesn't — and builds offline tolerance in from the start rather than promising fibre the street can't order.

  • Built for split sites

A shopfront on Jonson Street, a studio in the industrial estate, a farm gate near Mullumbimby and a cafe in Bangalow — they don't all get the same link. Frontrow designs SharePoint, Teams and Intune for offline-then-sync usage and mixed connectivity, so the slowest site in the fleet isn't the one that breaks the model.

Co-managed option

Got an internal IT lead? Frontrow slots in around them.

Plenty of Byron Shire operations already have someone who keeps the lights on. Frontrow co-manages — taking the out-of-hours, the Microsoft depth, the security and the specialist project work — and hands back the day-to-day that team wants to keep. Fully managed if there's no internal IT at all.

  • Predictable monthly cost

Fixed scope, fixed price, fixed SLA. Project work is scoped separately, never slipped in through support.

  • Board-grade reporting

Monthly reports an executive team can read — Essential Eight posture, ticket trends, risk — not a ticket dump.

FAQ — Byron Bay & Byron Shire

What Byron Shire businesses ask Frontrow.

Do you have an office in Byron Bay?
No — Frontrow's offices are in Brisbane, Mackay, Townsville and Adelaide. Byron Bay and Byron Shire are supported from the Brisbane office at Level 1, 355 Queen Street, with the same senior, certified people who run IT for clients across QLD and NSW, and on-site visits scheduled when work genuinely needs hands on the ground. The honest version: most managed IT is delivered remotely regardless of address, and Frontrow won't claim a local shopfront it doesn't have.
If you're not local, why use Frontrow over a Byron Bay IT provider?
Depth. Frontrow has been a Microsoft Partner since 2018 with Modern Work and AI specialisation and a 5× Microsoft MVP on the team — senior capability a single-office regional provider often can't keep on staff. For monitoring, Microsoft 365, Essential Eight and Copilot work, the senior person is on the call no matter where the desk is. And Brisbane is about 165 km up the motorway, so a planned site visit is a drive, not a project.
What kind of Byron Shire businesses do you run IT for?
Accommodation, hospitality and tour operators behind the visitor economy; creative studios, media businesses and wellness practitioners; medical and allied-health practices around Byron Central Hospital; the producers and retailers of Mullumbimby and Bangalow; and the professional-services firms that support all of them. The Australian Bureau of Statistics counted 6,171 businesses in the Byron local government area at June 2025, and most of them run on systems their customers never see.
Can you support a seasonal business that scales up and down?
Yes — that's the shape of a visitor economy. Licensing, identity and devices are managed so the fleet grows for the season and shrinks after it without paying year-round for peak headcount, and offboarding is enforced so seasonal staff don't retain access after they've moved on.
How do you plan around flooding in Byron Shire?
As a documented local reality, not a hypothetical. Jonson Street was partially under water on 30 March 2022, Mullumbimby was hit by the same floods, and the Pacific Highway and the M1 were cut at points across the Northern Rivers that month. Frontrow designs cloud-first — identity, files and phones in Microsoft 365 rather than a server on the floor — with off-site backups, tested restores and a written continuity plan so a flooded premises is an inconvenience, not an existential problem.
We're a creative studio with freelancers coming and going. Can you handle that?
Yes. A studio or agency that brings in contractors by the project needs guest access, shared files and devices that can be granted and revoked quickly without handing out admin rights. Frontrow sets up Microsoft Entra ID, SharePoint and Teams so collaborators get exactly the access the job needs for exactly as long as it runs, and the studio's own work stays protected and backed up.
Some of our machines are still on Windows 10 — is that a problem?
It's a countdown. Windows 10 reached end of support in October 2025, and Extended Security Updates only buy time — at a rising price. Frontrow's free Microsoft end-of-support exposure check shows which devices and servers in a fleet are running out of road, and managed clients get a planned, budgeted upgrade path instead of a surprise.
Is this fully managed, or can you co-manage with our internal IT person?
Either. Frontrow runs IT fully managed for businesses without an internal team, and co-manages for those with an IT lead — taking the out-of-hours, the Microsoft depth and the specialist work, and handing back the day-to-day they want to keep.
