Managed IT for Blackall and Tambo.
Built for wool country on the Barcoo.

Frontrow runs managed IT, Microsoft 365 and cyber security for Blackall, Tambo and the Blackall-Tambo Region: the wool and cattle stations along the Barcoo, the accommodation and hospitality operators behind the Woolscour and the Matilda Way, and the council, health, trades and professional firms that serve two towns 100 km apart. Backed from Frontrow's Mackay office, designed for 4G and satellite links, a river that cuts the road, and a long way to the coast.

Why local knowledge matters

The difference regional understanding makes.

The Blackall-Tambo Region runs on stations hours from town, two service towns a highway apart, and a river that has cut one of them off for more than a week. The provider that designs for those realities answers a different way to the one selling a capital-city template.

A city MSP emails you a plan that assumes fibre to the door, a technician around the corner and a road that never goes under.

Frontrow runs IT for Blackall and Tambo businesses remote-first by design, with senior engineers, continuity built for flood, heat and distance, and on-site work backed from a real Mackay office.

A provider that understands wool country on the Barcoo and plans for it, not one surprised by it.

Honest about the address

No Blackall shopfront. Senior delivery either way.

Frontrow's offices are in Brisbane, Mackay, Townsville and Adelaide, not Blackall or Tambo. Rather than pretend otherwise, Frontrow supports the Blackall-Tambo Region remote-first from its Mackay office at Suite 9, 92 Wood Street, with senior architects pulled in from Brisbane when scope needs them, and schedules on-site visits when a job genuinely needs hands on the ground.

Frontrow has been a Microsoft Partner since 2018, with Modern Work and AI specialisation and a 5× Microsoft MVP on the team. For monitoring, Microsoft 365, Essential Eight and Copilot work, that depth reaches a Blackall business the same way it reaches a Brisbane one: the senior architect on the call, wherever the desk happens to be.

  • Wool and cattle on the Barcoo

Grazing is the dominant industry around Blackall, with more than 70 homesteads in the locality, and sheep and cattle properties are the chief industries of the Tambo district too. This is Jackie Howe country: his 1892 record of 321 sheep in a day at Alice Downs still stands for hand shearing. Station offices run on email, accounting, stock records and agents' portals, and Frontrow keeps that working over a 4G or satellite link, secured and backed up, without a technician driving out for every ticket.

  • Heritage tourism: the Woolscour and the Black Stump

The Blackall Woolscour ran from 1908 to 1978 and is the only known surviving early 20th-century mechanised woolscour in Australia, now a steam-powered working museum 4 km out of town. Blackall claims the original Black Stump, Tambo was founded in 1863 as the oldest town in western Queensland, and both sit on the Landsborough Highway's Matilda Way. Frontrow supports the accommodation, caravan park and hospitality operators behind that traffic, whose bookings, payments and rosters have to work every morning.

  • The region's services

Blackall is the service centre for Blackall-Tambo Regional Council, formed in 2008 from the former Blackall and Tambo shires. The new Blackall Hospital opened in November 2020, Blackall State School runs Prep to Year 12, and the council, trades, transport and professional firms carry the services a region of 30,000 square kilometres depends on. ABS counted about 400 businesses in the Blackall-Tambo region at June 2025.

  • Two towns, 100 km apart

Blackall and Tambo sit about 100 km apart on the Landsborough Highway, with Barcaldine 106 km north of Blackall and Charleville 201 km south of Tambo. Businesses that work both towns, or run a station between them, live with split sites and mixed connectivity as a daily fact, and Frontrow designs identity, devices and continuity for exactly that shape.

Designed for the Central West

Built for the towns beyond the Black Stump.

A national MSP can sell a generic plan and a local one can sell a local address. Frontrow brings senior Microsoft and cyber depth to a district where Blackall sank one of Queensland's first artesian bores in 1885, where the Woolscour was the last of the western scours to close, and where the Barcoo decides whether the highway is open. Frontrow services the wider region the same way, from its base in Mackay.

  • Backed from a real Queensland regional office

Frontrow has no Blackall or Tambo shopfront. Remote-first support is the right model for the Central West, and Frontrow builds for it deliberately: monitoring, patching, identity and most fixes happen without anyone on site, backed from the Mackay office at Suite 9, 92 Wood Street with senior architects pulled in from Brisbane when scope needs them, and on-site visits scheduled when work genuinely needs hands on the ground.

  • Designed for the distance

Blackall is 615 km west of Rockhampton by road and about 960 km from Brisbane. A part or a person does not arrive in an hour, so Frontrow builds backup and restore regimes and documented recovery so systems come back without a truck roll, and spares the things that matter most (a router, a switch, a laptop) so a failure is a swap, not a wait.

  • Honest about connectivity

Frontrow scopes connectivity from what each address can actually get, not from assumptions: fixed-line where it exists in town, business-grade wireless, 4G or satellite on the stations, and systems designed to keep working through a slow or interrupted link.

  • Built for the river

The Barcoo runs past both towns. It flooded Blackall's main street in 1881 and cut Tambo off for eight days in the 2010–11 floods. Frontrow designs cloud-first so a week without road access is an inconvenience for the business, not an outage: identity, files and phones in Microsoft 365, backups outside the district, and a written plan for the days the town is an island.

Business continuity

Tambo was an island for eight days. Design for the next time.

In March 1881 the Barcoo burst through Blackall's embankment and flooded the main street. In the 2010–11 Queensland floods, Tambo was cut off for eight days. Both towns take their hardware, their parts and most of their visiting technicians from the coast, and Rockhampton is 615 km from Blackall by road.

For a station, a motel or a council contractor, the exposure isn't only the water. It's what days without road access, power or connectivity do to bookings, payroll and stock records. Continuity should be designed before the wet, not after the warning, and Frontrow builds it the same way it does for the rest of Central Queensland, including Emerald on the Capricorn Highway.

  • Cloud-first, site-optional

If the office is unreachable, work shouldn't stop with it. Frontrow puts identity, files and phones in Microsoft 365 rather than on a server in a hot back room, so staff keep working from the homestead, the ute or the coast.

  • Backups outside the district

Off-site, geographically separate backups with tested restores and documented RTO/RPO. A backup drive in the same building as the server is not a continuity plan when the river is up and the nearest replacement is a day's drive away.

  • Power, heat and connectivity failover

UPS on the comms rack, 4G or satellite failover on the router, cooling that suits a hot semi-arid summer, and a written plan for who calls whom and what comes back first, so a station office, a caravan park or a clinic rides out an outage instead of going dark with it.

Already working the region

Central Queensland coverage, one team.

Frontrow already runs managed IT out of Mackay for the Bowen Basin and Central Queensland, so a Blackall or Tambo business joins a team that knows the corridor, not a new experiment. The same engineers cover Emerald and Rockhampton along the Capricorn Highway, Mount Isa at the far end of the Landsborough, and the mining and resources contractors in between.

  • Connectivity scoped honestly

Frontrow quotes from what each address can actually get: fixed-line where it exists in town, business-grade wireless, 4G or satellite on the stations, and offline tolerance built in from the start rather than promising fibre the road can't order.

  • Built for split sites

An office in Blackall, a depot in Tambo, a homestead between them and an accountant on the coast don't all get the same link. Frontrow designs SharePoint, Teams and Intune for offline-then-sync usage and mixed connectivity, so the slowest site in the fleet isn't the one that breaks the model.

Co-managed option

Got an internal IT lead? Frontrow slots in around them.

Plenty of Central West operations already have someone who keeps the lights on. Frontrow co-manages, taking the out-of-hours, the Microsoft depth, the security and the specialist project work, and hands back the day-to-day that team wants to keep. Fully managed if there's no internal IT at all.

  • Predictable monthly cost

Fixed scope, fixed price, fixed SLA. Project work is scoped separately, never slipped in through support.

  • Board-grade reporting

Monthly reports an executive team can read: Essential Eight posture, ticket trends, risk. Not a ticket dump.

FAQ — Blackall, Tambo & the region

What Blackall-Tambo businesses ask Frontrow.

Do you have an office in Blackall or Tambo?
No. Frontrow's offices are in Brisbane, Mackay, Townsville and Adelaide, and Frontrow won't claim a local shopfront it doesn't have. Remote-first support is the right model for the Central West: monitoring, patching, identity and most fixes happen without anyone on site. Blackall and Tambo are backed from the Mackay office at Suite 9, 92 Wood Street, with senior architects pulled in from Brisbane when scope needs them and on-site visits scheduled when work genuinely needs hands on the ground.
If you're not local, why use Frontrow over a Blackall IT provider?
Depth. Frontrow has been a Microsoft Partner since 2018 with Modern Work and AI specialisation and a 5× Microsoft MVP on the team, senior capability a single-office regional provider often can't keep on staff. For monitoring, Microsoft 365, Essential Eight and Copilot work, the senior person is on the call no matter where the desk is. And Frontrow already works Central Queensland from Mackay, including Emerald and Rockhampton along the Capricorn Highway.
What kind of Blackall and Tambo businesses do you run IT for?
Wool and cattle operations across the Blackall-Tambo Region, the accommodation and hospitality businesses behind the Woolscour, the Black Stump and the Matilda Way traffic, and the council contractors, trades, transport, health and professional firms that serve both towns. Anywhere senior, security-led managed IT matters more than a local address.
Can you support a station a long way out of town?
Yes, and that is the model Frontrow builds for. SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive and Intune are configured for offline-then-sync use and low-bandwidth devices, so the homestead office keeps working when the satellite or 4G link is poor. Monitoring, patching and identity run remotely, and when a job genuinely needs someone on the property, it is scheduled rather than improvised.
How do you plan for the Barcoo, the heat and the distance?
As facts of geography, not hypotheticals. The Barcoo flooded Blackall's main street in 1881 and cut Tambo off for eight days in the 2010–11 floods, and Rockhampton is 615 km away by road. Frontrow designs cloud-first, with identity, files and phones in Microsoft 365 rather than on a server in a hot back room, keeps backups outside the district with tested restores, and writes down who calls whom and what comes back first when the road, the power or the link drops.
Can you support a business that runs across both Blackall and Tambo?
Yes. Licensing, identity and devices are managed as one Microsoft 365 tenant across both towns and any station in between, with Conditional Access and Intune built for mixed connectivity, so a person who works in Blackall on Monday and Tambo on Tuesday gets the same files, the same phone and the same security either end of the highway.
Some of our machines are still on Windows 10. Is that a problem?
It's a countdown. Windows 10 reached end of support in October 2025, and Extended Security Updates only buy time at a rising price. Managed clients get a planned, budgeted upgrade path instead of a surprise, which matters more when the nearest hardware supplier is a day's drive away.
Is this fully managed, or can you co-manage with our internal IT person?
Either. Frontrow runs IT fully managed for businesses without an internal team, and co-manages for those with an IT lead, taking the out-of-hours, the Microsoft depth and the specialist work, and handing back the day-to-day they want to keep.
