Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise: Understanding the Standalone Licence

Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise provides standalone desktop Office applications like Word and Excel, without integrated email, collaboration, or security features.

Last reviewed 23 May 2026

What's Included

Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise is a standalone licence providing access to core Office desktop applications. This includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (desktop version), OneNote, Access, and Publisher. Users receive 1 TB of OneDrive storage for file storage and access. It's important to note that this SKU does not include Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, or SharePoint Online. It’s purely the desktop application suite.

Australian Buyer Profile & Migration

In the AU mid-market, this licence is sometimes chosen by organisations that already utilise a third-party email solution or Google Workspace for collaboration, but require the full suite of desktop Office applications on employee devices. Organisations needing a full M365 experience, including email, collaboration, and security, will typically migrate from Apps for Enterprise to a plan like E1 or E3. Consider the OAIC Privacy Act 2024 and APRA CPS 234 when evaluating the security implications of a solution lacking integrated security features.
