What Copilot Pro Did
Copilot Pro extended the core Microsoft 365 applications, providing AI assistance for tasks such as drafting documents, summarising emails, creating presentations and generating images. It offered priority access to the latest AI models and boosts for Image Creator. Unlike Microsoft 365 Copilot, it was designed for individual or family use and did not integrate with enterprise data sources or security policies.
Retirement and the Replacement Path
Microsoft has withdrawn Copilot Pro from sale. Existing subscribers can continue using it until they cancel or until support ends on 1 August 2026. For consumers, sole traders and anyone on a personal Microsoft 365 subscription, the replacement is Microsoft 365 Premium, which bundles the Office apps and Copilot into one plan at AU$33.00 per month or AU$329.00 per year. Microsoft's consumer pricing page does not state whether GST is included, so confirm the total at checkout. Prices checked July 2026.
What This Means for Australian Tenants
Organisations with a company Microsoft 365 tenant were never well served by Copilot Pro, and the retirement removes an option that often caused confusion on expense claims. The business product is Microsoft 365 Copilot at AU$44.90 per user per month ex GST on an annual commitment, or AU$31.40 for the Microsoft 365 Copilot Business packaging aimed at organisations under 300 seats. Only the business product grounds answers in tenant data under existing permissions, and only it carries the admin controls that matter for frameworks such as APRA CPS 234 and the Essential Eight. Any staff still holding personal Copilot Pro subscriptions should be moved onto the correct licence before 1 August 2026.
