Managed IT for Darwin.
Built for a defence, port and gas city with a wet season.

Frontrow runs managed IT, Microsoft 365 and cyber security for Darwin and Palmerston: the contractors around Larrakeyah, Robertson Barracks and RAAF Base Darwin, the engineering and logistics firms behind the port and the LNG plants, the government-adjacent and health businesses around Royal Darwin Hospital, and the trades and professional firms of a growing satellite city. Delivered remote-first from Brisbane and Adelaide, with continuity designed for a city that rebuilt itself after Tracy.

Why local knowledge matters

The difference Top End understanding makes.

Darwin runs on Defence timetables, a harbour that works around the clock, a wet season every operator plans around, and a clock half an hour off the east coast. The provider that designs for those realities answers a different way to the one selling a southern-capital template.

A southern MSP emails you a plan that assumes the power stays on through the wet, the link never drops and support hours are set in Sydney time.

Frontrow runs IT for Darwin and Palmerston businesses with senior engineers, continuity designed for a documented cyclone history, Essential Eight controls a Defence prime will accept, and support windows set in Darwin time.

A provider that understands a defence-and-gas city with a wet season and plans for it, not one surprised by it.

Honest about the address

No Darwin shopfront. Senior delivery either way.

Frontrow's offices are in Brisbane, Mackay, Townsville and Adelaide — not Darwin. The nearest are Brisbane and Adelaide, and rather than pretend otherwise, Frontrow services Darwin and Palmerston remote-first from those teams, and schedules on-site travel for projects and the jobs that genuinely need hands on the ground.

Frontrow has been a Microsoft Partner since 2018, with Modern Work and AI specialisation and a 5× Microsoft MVP on the team. For monitoring, Microsoft 365, Essential Eight and Copilot work, that depth reaches a Darwin business the same way it reaches a Brisbane one: the senior architect on the call, wherever the desk happens to be. Frontrow already delivers Microsoft 365 Copilot readiness in Darwin on exactly this model.

  • Defence and the contractors around it

The military presence is a substantial source of employment in Darwin. Larrakeyah Defence Precinct, including HMAS Coonawarra and its patrol-boat force, is the main Australian Defence Force base in the Northern Territory; Robertson Barracks at Holtze is home to the Army's 1st Brigade; RAAF Base Darwin shares its runway with the international airport; and US Marines have rotated through the city since 2012. Frontrow runs IT for the contractors, maintenance and services firms that work around those bases, with the security posture defence supply chains expect.

  • Port, gas and the industrial harbour

Port Darwin is Australia's most northerly port, with East Arm Wharf open since 2000, and the harbour's industrial side has grown around gas: the Ichthys LNG plant at Bladin Point, fed by an 889 km subsea pipeline from the Timor Sea, shipped its first LNG cargo in October 2018, and the Middle Arm precinct is being promoted for further industry. Frontrow supports the engineering, logistics and services firms in those supply chains with multi-site identity, remote-site connectivity and supplier-grade security.

  • Government and the health hub

Darwin is the Territory's capital, home to the Legislative Assembly and the departments around it, and federal spending is a major contributor to the local economy. Royal Darwin Hospital at Tiwi is the Territory's only tertiary referral hospital and its largest, home to the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre, with Palmerston Regional Hospital opened in 2018 as a second campus. Frontrow supports the government-adjacent firms, private clinics, allied health and NDIS providers that work around that hub.

  • Palmerston and the growth corridor

Palmerston is a planned satellite city about 20 km from the Darwin CBD, developed from the early 1980s and proclaimed the Territory's second city in 2000. The ABS counted 8,119 businesses in the Darwin LGA at June 2025, with Palmerston adding about 2,100 more: builders, trades, retail, hospitality and the professional firms that serve a fast-growing municipality. Frontrow keeps that plumbing working, secured and backed up, from the job-scheduling app to the shared mailbox.

Designed for the Top End

Built for the capital that links Australia to Asia.

A national MSP can sell a generic plan and a local one can sell a local address. Frontrow brings senior Microsoft and cyber depth to a capital of about 140,000 people that holds nearly two-thirds of the Territory's population, hosts the main ADF base in the Territory, ships LNG from its harbour, and has been rebuilt after cyclones and air raids more than once. Frontrow runs the same model from its Brisbane and Adelaide offices, the two nearest to the Top End.

  • Remote-first, by design

Frontrow has no Darwin office. The nearest Frontrow offices are Brisbane and Adelaide, and Darwin and Palmerston are serviced remote-first from those teams, with on-site travel scheduled for projects and the work that genuinely needs hands on the ground. The engagement model is the senior architect on the call, not a junior at a local desk.

  • Wet-season continuity as a certainty

Darwin's wet season typically arrives in late November or early December and brings monsoonal rain, lightning and increased cyclone activity through to around March. Frontrow designs for it as a certainty of geography: cloud-first systems, backups outside the Top End, and a written plan for the days the power or the link is out.

  • Half an hour behind Brisbane, all year

Darwin runs on Australian Central Standard Time and doesn't observe daylight saving, so it sits 30 minutes behind Brisbane year-round and matches Adelaide outside daylight saving. Frontrow's monitoring is 24/7 regardless, and scheduled support windows are set in Darwin time, not the provider's.

  • Defence-grade security, sized for a contractor

Businesses around Defence, the port and the gas plants get asked to prove their security posture, not just describe it. Frontrow aligns controls to the Essential Eight on the Microsoft 365 licensing a business already pays for, and reports posture in a form a prime contractor's procurement team will accept.

Business continuity

Tracy took 70 per cent of the city. Design for the next one.

Cyclone Tracy crossed the coast near Fannie Bay in the early hours of 25 December 1974. It destroyed more than 70 per cent of Darwin's buildings, left most of the city's homes uninhabitable, and led to the evacuation of more than 30,000 people. The city was rebuilt afterwards to a cyclone code, and every wet season since has started with the same question.

For a Defence, port and gas economy, the exposure isn't only the wind. It's what days without power, connectivity or site access do to shift rosters, contractor reporting and a harbour that doesn't pause. Continuity should be designed before the build-up, not after the warning. Start with Frontrow's free cyclone season IT continuity check.

  • Cloud-first, site-optional

If the office is unreachable, work shouldn't stop with it. Frontrow puts identity, files and phones in Microsoft 365, not on a server in a ground-floor office, so staff keep working from wherever they've ridden the weather out.

  • Backups outside the Top End

Off-site, geographically separate backups with tested restores and documented RTO/RPO. A backup drive in the same building as the server is not a continuity plan in a cyclone city.

  • Power & connectivity failover

UPS on the comms rack, 4G/5G failover on the router, and a written plan for who calls whom and what comes back first, designed so a workshop on the industrial side of the harbour, a clinic in Palmerston or a CBD office rides out an outage instead of going dark with it.

Plan it with real numbers

Free tools before you talk to anyone.

Frontrow publishes the tools it uses in scoping conversations, free and without a sign-up wall, so a Darwin business can put numbers around cost, security posture and wet-season readiness before the first call.

  • Connectivity scoped honestly

Frontrow quotes from what each address can actually get: fixed-line where it exists, business-grade wireless or 4G/5G failover where it doesn't. Offline tolerance is built in from the start rather than promising fibre a rural block out past Howard Springs can't order.

  • Built for split sites

An office in the CBD, a yard in Palmerston, a crew out at East Arm and a contractor on base: they don't all get the same link. Frontrow designs SharePoint, Teams and Intune for offline-then-sync usage and mixed connectivity, so the slowest site in the fleet isn't the one that breaks the model.

Co-managed option

Got an internal IT lead? Frontrow slots in around them.

Plenty of Top End operations already have someone who keeps the lights on. Frontrow co-manages, taking the out-of-hours, the Microsoft depth, the security and the specialist project work, and hands back the day-to-day that team wants to keep. Fully managed if there's no internal IT at all.

  • Predictable monthly cost

Fixed scope, fixed price, fixed SLA. Project work is scoped separately, never slipped in through support.

  • Board-grade reporting

Monthly reports an executive team can read: Essential Eight posture, ticket trends, risk. Not a ticket dump.

FAQ — Darwin & Palmerston

What Top End businesses ask Frontrow.

Do you have an office in Darwin?
No — Frontrow's offices are in Brisbane, Mackay, Townsville and Adelaide, and the nearest to Darwin are Brisbane and Adelaide. Frontrow services Darwin and Palmerston remote-first from those teams, with the same senior, certified people who run IT for clients across QLD, NSW and SA, and schedules on-site travel for projects and work that genuinely needs hands on the ground. The honest version: most managed IT is delivered remotely regardless of address, and Frontrow won't claim a local shopfront it doesn't have.
If you're not local, why use Frontrow over a Darwin MSP?
Depth. Frontrow has been a Microsoft Partner since 2018 with Modern Work and AI specialisation and a 5× Microsoft MVP on the team — senior capability a single-office provider often can't keep on staff. For monitoring, Microsoft 365, Essential Eight and Copilot work, the senior person is on the call no matter where the desk is. Frontrow already delivers Microsoft 365 Copilot readiness into Darwin on the same remote-first model.
What kind of Darwin businesses do you run IT for?
Contractors and services firms working around Larrakeyah, Robertson Barracks and RAAF Base Darwin, engineering and logistics suppliers to the port and the gas plants, government-adjacent firms, private clinics and allied-health providers around Royal Darwin Hospital, and the builders, trades, hospitality and professional firms that make up most of the Darwin and Palmerston business base. Anywhere senior, security-led managed IT matters more than a local address.
How do you plan around the wet season and cyclones?
As a documented local reality, not a hypothetical. Cyclone Tracy crossed the coast on 25 December 1974 and destroyed more than 70 per cent of Darwin's buildings; the city was rebuilt to a cyclone code afterwards. Frontrow designs cloud-first — identity, files and phones in Microsoft 365 rather than a server in a ground-floor office — with backups outside the Top End, tested restores and a written continuity plan, and publishes a free cyclone-season IT continuity check any operator can run before the build-up.
Can you support a business that supplies Defence?
Yes — that's the posture Darwin requires more than most cities. Defence primes and their contractors send supplier security questionnaires and expect evidence, not assurances. Frontrow aligns controls to the Essential Eight on the Microsoft 365 stack you already pay for, documents them, and reports posture in a form a procurement team will accept. Classified or Defence-sensitive material stays out of cloud AI tools as a matter of governance.
We have sites in Darwin, Palmerston and out on the harbour. Can you manage that?
That's the normal shape of a Top End business. Frontrow designs identity, SharePoint, Teams and Intune for split sites and mixed connectivity from the start: offline-then-sync file access, device policies that don't assume a fast link, 4G/5G failover where fixed-line isn't reliable, and one security posture across every address.
Some of our machines are still on Windows 10 — is that a problem?
It's a countdown. Windows 10 reached end of support in October 2025, and Extended Security Updates only buy time — at a rising price. Frontrow's free Microsoft end-of-support exposure check shows which devices and servers in a fleet are running out of road, and managed clients get a planned, budgeted upgrade path instead of a surprise.
Is this fully managed, or can you co-manage with our internal IT person?
Either. Frontrow runs IT fully managed for businesses without an internal team, and co-manages for those with an IT lead — taking the out-of-hours, the Microsoft depth and the specialist work, and handing back the day-to-day they want to keep.
