Mount Piper — EnergyAustralia's 1,400 MW black-coal station near Portland, about 25 km from Lithgow — was the last power station the Electricity Commission of NSW built, commissioned in 1993 and fuelled from mines in the local area. In September 2021 EnergyAustralia brought its closure forward to 2040 at the latest, and neighbouring Wallerawang, shut down by the end of 2014 and demolished in 2021, shows what that transition looks like on the ground. Lithgow has made small arms for Australia since the Commonwealth opened the Small Arms Factory on 8 June 1912. Corporatised as ADI and sold in 2006, the plant is now Thales Australia's Lithgow Arms — maker of the EF88 Austeyr and F89 Minimi — and Thales opened a new advanced manufacturing facility there in August 2023. Designed for the Central Tablelands
A national MSP can sell a generic plan and a local one can sell a local address. Frontrow brings senior Microsoft and cyber depth to the first true country town west of Sydney — where Australia's first commercially viable steel mill once ran, a 1,400 MW power station has a closure date, a small-arms factory has worked since 1912, and the contractors in between are asked to prove their security posture at the gate.
Frontrow has no Lithgow office. Day-to-day support, monitoring and the Microsoft depth run remotely from the Brisbane team, with on-site visits scheduled when hands-on work genuinely needs them. The engagement model is the senior architect on the call — not a junior at a local desk.
Lithgow is on nbn's published Business Fibre Zone list — its regional NSW zone map was updated in May 2026 — which changes the cost and availability of enterprise-grade fibre for premises inside the zone. The Gospers Mountain fire of 2019–20 burnt close to 500,000 hectares and threatened homes in the Lithgow area, and winters at 950 m are cold — a mean July minimum of 0.7 °C at the Bureau of Meteorology's Lithgow station. Frontrow designs cloud-first: if a site is unreachable, the business keeps running from wherever staff are, and backups live outside the fire ground.

Business continuity
Lithgow sits at 950 m on the western edge of the Blue Mountains sandstone country. In November 2019 the Gospers Mountain fire took hold in Wollemi National Park and went on to burn close to 500,000 hectares, threatening homes in the Hawkesbury and Lithgow areas; on 21 December the escaped Mount Wilson backburn ran through Bell, Clarence and Dargan on a day that destroyed dozens of homes across the upper mountains.
Winter is the other season to plan for — a mean July minimum of 0.7 °C at the Bureau's Lithgow station, and 20 cm of snow in a single October 2014 event. For an energy-and-industry town, the exposure isn't only smoke in the street — it's what an unreachable site, a power interruption or a cut link does to rosters, inductions and invoicing that can't wait for the weather. Continuity should be designed before the next fire season, not after it.
If the office is unreachable, work shouldn't stop with it. Frontrow puts identity, files and phones in Microsoft 365 — not on a server in a building the fire could reach — so staff keep working from wherever they are.
Off-site, geographically separate backups with tested restores and documented RTO/RPO. A backup drive in the same building as the server is not a continuity plan in bushfire country.
UPS on the comms rack, 4G/5G failover on the router, and a documented plan for who calls whom and what comes back first — designed so a workshop, clinic or office rides out an interruption instead of going dark with it.
